Care Provider Options for Bowen Island
options for pregnant folks in general are midwives, family practice, or an obstetrician
there are a handful of midwives who support clients on Bowen Island but typically, they will not come to the island for homebirth or postpartum
while recommendations are great, we encourage folks to reflect on their own desires for birth and postpartum when choosing a care provider
The Bowen Birth Collective has supported many homebirths on island as non-medical birth attendants. We also work with traditional midwives and birth attendants in the city to offer as much wrap-around support as we can to folks who choose to birth this way.

Canopy Midwives
Canopy offers both prenatal and postpartum care to folks on Bowen. You can transfer your postpartum care to Canopy postpartum even if you had a different care provider for birth.
Canopy does not currently support homebirth on Bowen. This does not mean you can’t birth on Bowen – it means if Canopy is your care provider and you choose to birth on Bowen, your midwife will not attend.

Strathcona Midwifery
Strathcona offers prenatal and standard postpartum care. They are based in Chinatown, Vancouver, and hold hospital privileges at BC Women’s and St. Paul’s Hospital.
Strathcona does not currently support homebirth on Bowen. This does not mean you can’t birth on Bowen – it means if Strathcona is your care provider and you choose to birth on Bowen, your midwife will not attend.

Pomegranate Midwives
Pomegranate offers prenatal and standard postpartum care. They are based in East Vancouver, and hold hospital privileges at BC Women’s and Burnaby Hospital.
Pomegranate does not currently support homebirth on Bowen. This does not mean you can’t birth on Bowen – it means if Pomegranate is your care provider and you choose to birth on Bowen, your midwife will not attend.

Lion's Gate Maternity Clinic
Lion’s Gate Maternity Clinic offers prenatal and postpartum support. Care is offered by a team of obstetricians. LGMC only supports in-hospital birth and all appointments take place at Lion’s Gate, including checkups in the first few days after discharge.
